I'd like to get a brighter projection out of my super 8 projector. It's a Bell and Howell 346A and uses a 150watt DJL bulb. On the side of the projector it says it can handle 100 to 500 watt bulbs. So, my question: can I use a different type of bulb in my projector? Like if I found a 500 watt bulb with a different 3-letter code, and it fit in the socket, could I use it? If no, how can I find out what bulbs I can use in that projector?

    Thanks for your help

Can projector bulbs still be purcahsed? I have
a B&H projector too. And the bulb is very finicky
I have to jiggle it for it to turn on pretty much
everytime I go to use it. I have worried how I
will be able to transfer my films if that ancient
    light bulb burns out.

The bulb you have to jiggle sounds like the contacts on the bulb and/or it's socket need cleaning. I hope it's not the case that the socket has gone sour, that could be hard to replace. (when you take the bulb out, don't touch the surface of the bulb itself, just the reflector. The oils in your skin could cause the glass to shatter when it gets hot.)

These people are good for projection bulbs:
